Frequently Asked Questions on Paediatrics and Neonatology

How to prevent my child from getting sick?

Regular hand washing, giving proper food, breastfeeding and vaccinations are key to protect your child from infections and illness.

Vaccines help to boost your immune system allowing it to fight against infections and severe diseases such as tetanus, measles, influenza, polio and many more.

Paediatricians are focused on monitoring and treating illnesses of children up to the age of 18 years old. Whereas, Neonatologists are focused on providing treatment to newborns and infants who are suffering from life-threatening health conditions.

Babies that have taken birth before the 37th week of pregnancy or have been born with weight less than 2.5 kilograms need special care and are therefore admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

If your baby has been suffering from, a cold, cough or diarrhoea and had a fever from the last 3 days then you should immediately consult with a healthcare provider.

Although breastfeeding is the best form of nutrition for the baby, it is recommended to breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months which can be continued till the age of 2 years.
